Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise (NHE) was registered in 1996 as a private, international humanitarian organisation in Azerbaijan by its Norwegian founder. Through a partner agency, the British “Global Care”, the founder started operations in Azerbaijan already in 1994, providing emergency aid to refugees.
NHE works under the auspices of the Commission for Humanitarian Assistance within the Cabinet of Ministers, co-operating closely with the Norwegian Embassy, Norwegian companies, as well as several other international humanitarian organisations.
The purpose is to provide hope and sustainable support to people affected by the bad economic situation after the break-up of the Soviet Union, further aggravated by the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh. Large segments of the population of 8.3 million, not only from the around 1 million refugees and internally displaced population resulting from this long-standing conflict, need help—housing, education, social support, employment, and other humanitarian assistance.
NHE aims at helping people to help themselves. Thus, creating job opportunities and enabling people to utilize their abilities and resources have a high priority.
