Performing Arts Project

Contact person: The Programme Manager

NHE wishes to make performing arts available for the large segments of society who are finding life very challenging in this period of transition for the whole society to help develop such expressions of art further, as well as preserving the performing arts forms handed down to us today from the generations before us. Old partners will be followed up, such as Sheki Music En-semble and Ganja Chamber Orchestra.

Project Period: 1/2008—12/2010

Cultural Exchange Scheme

Contact person: The Programme Manager

Through this scheme, NHE is promoting cultural exchange between the 2 nations of Azerbaijan and Norway. We believe that such contact is important for the mutual development and broadening of our perspectives. NHE receives many visitors from Norway—project related people, supervisors and consultants, as well as more regular tourists with some sort of relationship with NHE. On the other hand Azerbaijanis are visiting Norway from time to time, often as project-related delegations, and the Cultural Exchange Scheme is there to cater for both needs.

Udi Cultural Support Grant Scheme

Contact person: The Programme Manager

The Udi people is a minority people within Azerbaijan, struggling to establish a foundation for its continued existence. Many Udis have left Azerbaijan since independence, and support from government, as well as organizations like NHE, is crucial in order to prevent ancient, unique traditions and culture from disappearing. In 2008, NHE has supported this through sponsoring the publication of the first ever Udi—Azerbaijani—Russian tri—lingual dictionary (to be published in 2009), the construction of an assembly hall for the newly registered religious Udi community (the Alban—Udi Christian Community, or AUCC) next to their village church in Nij village, Gabala. A second Udi NGO (Orain) has been invited to work in partnership with AUCC under a new 3—year Grant Scheme concept starting January 2009.

Project Period: 2009—2011

2.   To stimulate new cultural expres-sions and activities;

3.   To contribute to the exchange of cultural forms and expressions be- tween Azerbaijan and Norway;

4.   To help partners towards a higher degree of sustain-ability, and less reliance on external funding and gov-ernment support;

5.   To stimulate and encourage the ac-tive promotion of culture as an inte-gral part of all aspects of life, through activities and contacts cre-ated through the other programmes run by NHE (the Children & Youth Programme, the Agricultural Pro-gramme and the Human Resources Development Pro-gramme).

Publications

Contact Person: The Programme Manager

The printed word is an important aspect of a nation’s cultural expressions and identity, not least for a young nation like Azerbaijan still transitioning from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet. NHE supports this process, giving priority to the most vulnerable within the population, and to minority people groups. In 2008, NHE published a 2009 Calendar in 3 languages (Azerbaijani, English and Norwegian), focusing on children and youth.
