Three groups from NHE’s Bee Farming project in Qax region won first place in national honey competition.
In a recent national honey fair, three groups from Qax won recognition for their honey from the Azerbaijan Ministry of Agriculture. The 15 day long honey festival was held in Baku and there were more than 500 participants.
- We are happy for this victory, it was a victory for all of our community, the bee keepers and NHE who supports us. We won at the previous festival as well, the main criteria was the quality of our honey, says Bedreddin Hesretov.
He is group leader for one of the three winning teams and has worked as a bee keeper for 25 years. Today his farm is used as a demonstration and training site for other bee farmers in NHE project.
Work together
- NHE has taught us how to work in community, taught us team work. Now we help each other, share joys and sorrows and if anyone finds any solutions or opportunities he shares it with the others in order to help, says Bedreddin.
Shahin Meherremov and Nezir Nezirov are group leaders for the other two NHE Bee Farmer groups who won recognition for their honey. – There are bee farmers in our community who have started from scratch but are now making a living as bee farmers, thanks to NHEs support. I hope they will all attend next year’s honey fairs, says Shahin.

The bee farmers are keen to develop their techniques and improve their first class products even further. – After this victory, we have a desire to get more information, to be acquainted with the experience of bee farmers in other countries, to travel and see new ways of developing our honey production work, says Bedreddin.
