Orphanage no. 3, “Shagan”, located in Mardakan District outside Baku, has been a focal point for Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise´s children and youth work. Providing funds, training and equipment is essential, but so is creating some fun!
For ten years, Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise´s team, consisting of staff and local and international volunteers, have visited Mardakan orphanage, home to about 130 disabled children, about three times a week. Conditions have beeen greatly improved since the project began, and recently a state funded foundation renovated the entire premises.
Making a difference to the children´s wellbeing is important for the Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise team. They are constantly working to provide toys, clothes, nutritional food, physioteraphy equipment for the most severely disabled, and training for the staff.
But for the orphans, perhaps those extra hugs and those big smiles from the project team makes the biggest difference. Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise´s team believes that a little fun goes a long way, and so, the team works to bring in visitors and is sure to celebrate the children´s birthdays every month.
