Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise’s Gate-keeping project aims to assists families with disabled children in Azerbaijan.

Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise, as an international aid organization, is focused on the plight of children and youth as an important part of our total humanitarian assistance activities. The Children and Youth program facilitates Gate-keeping activities to assist families in providing for their disabled children and help prevent future institutionalization of children in orphanages.

Since the program started in 2008, the Gate-keeping project has helped over 65 families in and around Baku, in the Absheron peninsula and the north-western part of the country. Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise is currently working with Unicef and United Aid for Azerbaijan as well as local goverments to assist in 20 to 30 individual cases every year.

A young boy gets suport with school books and nutritius food Menzer Ismayılova, responsible for the Gate-keeping activities, explains, “We offer practical support, for instance if a family needs to take a child to the doctor’s. We also inform the families about their rights, for instance to get rehabilitation stays for the children. But perhaps the most important thing we offer is moral support; families with disabled children face many challenges.”
