Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise’s Gate-keeping project aims to assists families with disabled children in Azerbaijan.
Since the program started in 2008, the Gate-keeping project has helped over 65 families in and around Baku, in the Absheron peninsula and the north-western part of the country. Norwegian Humanitarian Enterprise is currently working with Unicef and United Aid for Azerbaijan as well as local goverments to assist in 20 to 30 individual cases every year.
Menzer Ismayılova, responsible for the Gate-keeping activities, explains, “We offer practical support, for instance if a family needs to take a child to the doctor’s. We also inform the families about their rights, for instance to get rehabilitation stays for the children. But perhaps the most important thing we offer is moral support; families with disabled children face many challenges.”
